Outlook 2014 - Review 2013

HORSCH continues its successful course

In 2013, the turnover of the HORSCH Maschinen GmbH amounted to 252 million Euro. Compared to 226 million Euro in 2012, this again is a new record and an enormous increase of 145% since 2010.
Hardly any other global manufacturer of the agricultural engineering sector has grown this dynamically and at the same time this soundly.

The anniversary year of 2014 is currently being seen with realistic caution and HORSCH’s planning is rather conservative, as in some markets a slight economic slow-down is noticeable. This is a result of the climatic and economic conditions in the respective countries.

Strong key markets (Germany, France, Poland, Czech Republic, Great Britain, Romania and Denmark) and the reinvigorated markets Russia and Ukraine as well as an enormous turnover increase in many other countries like South Africa, where HORSCH has only been working for a few years, contributed to the jump in sales in 2013. Another positive factor is that a lot of other countries contribute to the company turnover, with an export share of 75 %.

Business in the US, which is not included in the above mentioned turnover, has developed positively too. HORSCH LLC (a merger of HORSCH North America and HORSCH Anderson) was able to gain market shares and to expand the product range. Especially the compact disc harrow and the single grain seed drill Maestro are proving to be very popular with overseas customers. Excellent service and a lot of new sales partners have contributed to a disproportionately high growth.

For 30 years HORSCH’s worldwide motto has been “faster, simpler and safer“. A machine has to carry out its job faster, with the handling being simpler and the final result being safer.

The largest turnover is generated by the product lines Pronto, Terrano, Joker and Maestro. The pneumatic single grain technology that was awarded the prize Machine of the Year in 2012 has quickly turned into an important product for HORSCH and is growing enormously. The plant protection line HORSCH Leeb also develops very positively. The order books are filling up as the boom control system BoomControl Pro, that was awarded the Agritechnica silver medal of the DLG (German Agricultural Society) and the prize Machine of the year 2014, is going to be available this year for all trailed HORSCH Leeb GS sprayers and the self-propelled sprayer PT 270.

These records would not have been possible without new employees. Here, too, the company slogan “Farming with passion“ is an attitude to life of all employees at home and abroad whose number have again increased to about 1,100 people. This year, new jobs will be created in sectors where the management sees need for action.

2014 also will be the first year to face the new company structure that was introduced at the end of last year. In the long run it was to prepare the company well in advance for business succession and at short notice to relieve the management from the tasks of daily business to have more time for strategical planning. The company management board consists of the Horsch family members (Michael Horsch, Philipp Horsch, Traugott Horsch and Cornelia Horsch) as well as of the managing directors Horst Keller (HORSCH Maschinen GmbH) and Theodor Leeb (HORSCH LEEB Application Systems GmbH).

The individual divisions within the company are directly subject to individual members of the management. Horst Keller is the management responsible for the sectors Human Resources Management (Gerhard Springs), Administration and Procurement and Supplier Management (Dr. Johann Neidl). Philipp Horsch and Theodor Leeb are responsible for Production Management (Roland Schönleber) and Research & Development (Hubertus Bultmann). Cornelia Horsch now is responsible for the sectors Service & Parts (Günter Weinmann), Sales and Marketing (Kurt Glück).

The division managers together with their respective team leaders see to an effective and efficient work flow in the respective departments.

With such a modern, but still flat hierarchy HORSCH considers itself well prepared for the future and is happy to celebrate the 30th company anniversary this year.

A modern logo was created that with the strongly styled H brings the HORSCH origins from 30 years ago back to mind when the logo consisted of only this letter. Customers, dealers and fans can look forward to a lot of campaigns in the media and on at company sites. An example is the practical field days in May and June with special campaigns that are centered on the anniversary and for the first time will take place on the new farm in the Czech Republic, AgroVation. Also in this anniversary year HORSCH is planning enormous investments on a national and international scale. In Schwandorf the large pallet storage area of the logistic centre that has been put into operation in 2009 will be extended for an amount of about 600,000 Euro. More importantly, the construction works for an extension/new building of the FIT Training centre will start in spring. In Russia a completely new building with offices, training and storage facilities has been built for 2 million Euro. In the US the extension of the production site in Harper/Kansas was finished last year and the completely new factory near Fargo in North Dakota will be inaugurated this summer. Here the investment sum was about 15 million Euro.
