Office love story ... A (No-)Go? We have a story with a happy ending!
What is your opinion on office love stories? Can it work or is better to keep your hands off it? Finally, everyone has to decide for himself/herself. But today we want to tell you a success story: Heike and Christian, our team from the marketing department. But let’s start at the beginning:
To get to know them better, we take a time machine back to the year 1994…
After her language studies in Nuremberg, Heike wanted to return to Schwandorf and decided to send an application to HORSCH – after two interviews she was hired!
In the course of her career at HORSCH she gathered experiences as an assistant of the management and had the opportunity to get to know the most different sectors of the company.
But at that time, she could not know that she would meet her future great love in the year 2000.
There were still three semesters of his agricultural studies to go when Christian already gained a foothold at HORSCH within the scope of his second internship semester. One of his fellow students recommended HORSCH to Christian. He applied for an internship and was accepted. He was away a lot with the HORSCH truck and presented machines during demonstrations. After his internship he finished his studies, got his diploma and in 2002, started his permanent job at HORSCH.
The first meeting – in the office at HORSCH
After he had sent his application for the internship semester, Christian was invited for an interview. On this occasion he got to know the job as well as his future wife!
When, in the afternoon, Heike described him how to get to the hotel in Kreith, she was quite sure that he would never find it. For her directions were not optimum...
But fortunately, he found it and came back the next day!
As Christian’s studies came to an end, there still was one task to accomplish: the diploma thesis.
In this respect, too, Heike and he stayed in contact, for Heike supported him with regard to the analysis of the contact data of the visitors of events and trade fairs – at that time Heike had already moved more and more into the world of the marketing department.
And also when Christian started his permanent job, they continued to work together especially at events…
Love is in the air
Our colleagues more and more often saw each other at work and also in private and in the course of time, is became more than just friendly feelings…
Even the distance did not affect their love – Christian still was often away on business. The solution: long phone calls. Christian was not put off by the high telephone charges: After one business trip he received an invoice amounting to approx. 1400 € what even caused a stir at the telephone company and almost led to his mobile being cancelled. But fortunately, this could be prevented.
The love between Heike and Christian did not remain secret for long – the colleagues and the management noticed that something was in the air and only waited for the invitation to the wedding…
The big day
On the 30th of April 2005, Heike and Christian were married and they invited the colleagues and the management to the wedding-eve party. They of course wanted to participate. But the couple knew that for some of them it would be quite difficult to come to the party at the farm of Christian’s parents – 170 km away from Schwandorf. So Christian and Heike rented a bus for the colleagues so that they celebrate with them on this special day!
Professional and private life: mixed up or strictly separated?
To this day Christian and Heike are working in the same department – and one might wonder: How does this work as a couple?
For both of them it was clear right from the start: Professional and private life will be separated. Heike‘s and Christian’s motto is: When they are on the HORSCH premises, they are colleagues. When they leave it, they are a couple again.
However, at home this does not work 100 %. When talking about work, it might happen that they continue to work at the kitchen table. But both like particularly that they always understand the partner and his/her work as they work in the same company and know what the other one is dealing with at the moment.
One last question: Is HORSCH the only thing they have in common?
Of course not! You can find them on the dance floor or on quieter evenings on the sofa watching a MARVEL marathon. Cooking and having barbecues also is one of their hobbies.
Heike is an avid reader and meets her friends to do sport. Moreover, she supports their son with regard to his big hobby acting and theatre.
Like at work, Christian is a passionate photographer and runs the farm that he took over from his parents in 2006. In their own garden, too, he proves that he has green fingers. He sings in the gospel choir of the Protestant church. Not to forget his passion for model helicopters and in winter for snowboarding.
