HIGHLY FLEXIBLE MACHINES FROM HORSCH AT CEREALS 2014

Horsch’s new 6m Joker RT cultivator with a levelling board, Focus TD and Pronto DC drills will form the focus of a Horsch line up aimed at offering farmers maximum performance and flexibility.

“We’re seeing a move to greater working widths but also a desire to do more operations with one machine, ideally in as few passes as possible. With seed, fertiliser and fuel prices rising, systems such as Controlled Traffic Farming and our innovative singulation technology help reduce costs and improve crop performance. Capital and operating costs can be reduced further with highly flexible machines, like the Joker, Focus TD and Pronto, allowing farmers to operate efficiently in a wide range of conditions and scenarios with fewer machines,” said Stephen Burcham, general manager for Horsch UK.

Joker RT with levelling board for ploughed ground

A new levelling board will be available on the Joker 6 RT and 8 RT for next season. The board comprises a row levelling paddles at the leading edge of the RT’s frame and adds greater flexibility to the machine, enabling it to be used directly on ploughed ground as well as stubble.

Pronto with renowned all-weather capability

The Pronto range of seed drills has been designed to operate in a wide range of conditions, essential in wet weather in the past two years. Available in working widths from 3m, the Pronto DC features precise depth control thanks to preconfigured packer system and Turbo Disc seed coulters for high-speed precise sowing after plough, mulch sowing or direct seeding.

The 12m Pronto DC is currently the UK’s largest cultivating disc seed drill yet has a transport width of just 3m. The drill is the largest that can be legally moved on UK roads thanks to its innovative new folding mechanism. The transport width is a significant reduction on the 5.5m width of the Pronto 12 SW, which is available for markets such as Russia.

Focus TD, strip and conventional drilling in one machine

The new Focus TD has been designed to be an uncompromised solution for strip and conventional drilling in one machine. Available in 4m and 6m working widths, the new Focus TD features a 5000 litre grain and fertiliser hopper with a 60:40 split.

The tine cultivation frame can be quickly and simply released from the chassis at four mounting points. Once taken from under the machine, it can easily be replaced with the DiscSystem to create a compact rotary disc harrow, increasing the flexibility of the machine and the sowing window enormously.

Award-winning singulation unit

Horsch’s new singulation unit, a new metering technology that enables precise seed application, won a Silver Award for innovation at Agritechnica 2013. The new technology will be available on Horsch seed drills equipped with adapted TurboDisc seed coulters for sowing, like the Pronto DC the new Focus TD.

The new TurboDisc coulter body includes the mounted metering unit necessary for singling and placing in the soil and has been designed to achieve high singling accuracy. An operational speed of 10 to 12kph is important to maintain performance. The new single grain metering unit is able sow a single grain twice per second, or 120Hz, resulting in a seed density of 240 grains per square metre at 12kph with a row spacing of 15 cm.

Leeb sprayers with BoomControl Pro

The Leeb range of trailed and self-propelled sprayers offer tank capacities between 6000 and 8000 litres and incorporate new intelligent and user-friendly features to improve operation and in-field performance, such as the close nozzle spacing for deep crop penetration, unmatched boom control for high speed spraying and a highly effective cleaning system.

Boom widths of 21m to 36m are available and working heights range between 0.3m and 2.5 m. The geometry of the parallelogram has been designed to keep the boom close to the axle. The middle part of the boom and the outer wings are controlled independently. The boom itself is available in nine different configurations and widths.

The BoomControl Pro system offers an exact positioning of the boom, keeping it very close to the target area even at high speeds and on hilly terrain. The hydraulically proportional control allows for smooth movements, which guide the boom smoothly depending on the deviation.

BoomControl Pro on the flagship PT 330 self-propelled sprayer takes the system further with unprecedented control at speed. The boom has been separated from the chassis, which prevents the rolling motions of the vehicle from being transmitted to the boom. This patented and unique active boom control is essential in offering a small spray distance for low drift and high spray penetration. The secure boom control allows operational speeds up to 30kph with a nozzle distance of less than 30cm above the crop.
