The knife roller HORSCH Cultro TC for efficient stubble and catch crop management

The knife roller Cultro TC knife roller is no longer only used for crushing rapeseed and sunflower residues, but for almost all crops - including catch crops, cereals, maize or peas. It is not only due to its versatility that it becomes increasingly important in agriculture. The knife roller that efficiently crushes and evenly distributes crop residues while at the same time retains water in the soil provides a decisive advantage in view of the climate change. With the Cultro TC, a double knife roller can be combined with a 3-row harrow. This does not only minimise tillage but also optimises the distribution of straw and chaff. This technology encourages the germination of volunteer crops and at the same time reduces water loss.

Saving water and protecting nutrients

The shallow tillage with the knife roller prevents the drying chimney effect caused by stubbles that are still intact. The even crushing and distribution of straw creates a permanent straw cover that stores moisture under the mulch layer. This moisture is returned to the loosened soil when it cools down, thus retaining water and nutrients in the soil. Compared to conventional methods such as the combine-disc harrow combination. This considerably reduces water loss which is an enormous advantage in dry regions or during dry periods.

Crushing and distribution of harvest residues

With operational speeds of up to 25 km/h and working widths of 3 to 18 m, the knife roller stands for low horsepower requirement and efficiency. The Cultro TC combines precise crushing with minimum soil movement. The cross-arranged knives crush crop residues like sunflower stubble or catch crops like rapeseed intensively and distribute them lengthways and crossways in a targeted way. The shallow cultivation creates a mulch layer in the field. This crushed and broken organic mass provides a larger contact surface for microorganisms and soil biota and, thus, creates ideal conditions for rotting.
