HORSCH Chronology 1981 – 2009
Already in 1981, Michael Horsch had begun to modify and further develop agricultural machinery in the garage of his parents’ farm at Gut Sitzenhof. Soon the prototyp of the Horsch Seed Exactor had been developped – a seed drill that, for many years, has been the mainstay of sales.
In 1984, Michael Horsch, his father Dankwart and Walter Horsch founded the HORSCH Maschinen GmbH as chief partners together with Hans-Ulrich Horsch. In the same year Eckhard Eyer joined as a co-partner. Walter and Michael Horsch became directors. Soon other products were developped: The Terra-Trac became an important mainstay of sales. With this three-wheel tractor, first designed as a self-propelled seeding machine, Horsch became more known.
Then the German reunification took place and at one go the situation changed: Now there were large farms in great numbers that waited for new technology. So the product development continued particularly for bigger farms starting with 1.000 hectare.
In 1998, the Horsch FIT Center was built to directly pass on experiences and know-how.
From the year 2000 on, Horsch grew rapidly and also the company‘s rate of return increased significantly. An assembly hall was built in Gut Sitzenhof (2002), a further office building (2005) as well as a factory in Ronneburg (2007). With a growth in sales of 46 percent in 2007 and 74 percent in 2008 Horsch became one of the most important manufacturers of seed drills and soil cultivation. With more than 500 employees in Germany, internationally more than 1000 employees in partner companies, Horsch achieved a turnover of more than 200 Million Euro in 2008.
